About Skylight Ranch

Our Story

Skylight Ranch has been formed with a tripartite set of goals:

First: A Nature Preserve: we are working to restore parts of our 65-acres of field and forests back to the original state that existed before the arrival of Europeans.

Second: A Teaching Farm: Alongside maintaining a productive habitat where native species can flourish, we are developing flower, fruit, vegetable and herb gardens. Visitors may pick up helpful ideas to do the same when they get back home.

Third: An Educational Venue: Complete with a small on-site library, a natural history exhibit, a central area for group meetings and a private meditation room, this is a center for philosophical discussion of Advaita Vedanta, its basic ideas, historical roots, current trends and interface with modern science, including quantum theory.

I'd love to meet you or discuss what's happening here at Skylight, but....

The current staff at Skylight consists of one individual. That would be me: J R. I have been told a visiting swami might be assigned to this center if four or five dedicated members consistently show up for programs and activities. Hopefully, you may be one of them. Until that happens, I will be the ONLY person running the farm, working to complete the projects, brush-hogging, feeding chickens, watering veggies, tending to the cows, entertaining visitors and answering phone calls. If you're interested, there are a couple of ways to help. Try to keep any phone calls succinct and between our official hours from nine in the morning until four in the afternoon. If you are calling from an area code other than 479, please leave a message telling me your name and purpose for contacting Skylight; I will return your call as soon as I can. I hope you will understand why this has become necessary. Also, please don't show up without making an appointment since there is no telling where I'm at. I could be out in the boonies clearing roads through the forest, cutting hay in a pasture, or meditating.

I regard Consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness.
